When I first started this project, it was a solo mad idea that I didn’t even think was possible. Since then, I have proved it is possible and committed to my challenge. In that time, I have made an awful lot of adaptions that have made Fear possible for me to sail.
This has included:
- Install self tailing winches
- Lead all lines back to cockpit
- Increase ratios in reefing lines
- Straps to hold me onto windward side of cockpit
- Run jackstays along each side
- Replace short tiller extension with longer tiller extension
- Add rope bags
- Add large cleats above rope bags
- Sign writing of name
- Create a gas locker and run gas to cooker- to ensure boat has a gas safe system
- Replace cooker so that it gimbles
- Reseal companion way entrance to stop leaks
- Reseal coach roof handles
- Reinforce cockpit floor
- Put anti slip matting in cockpit to stop me falling over
- Replace VHF
- Add fire extinguishers
- Replace battery 2-leisure battery as doesn’t hold charge
Despite having done a significant amount of work there is still more to do. The next stage to enable things to get done means I need the boat out the water and the mast removed. She is due to come out on the 7th January and needs to go back in by the 4th February as I can only afford to have her out the water for a month.
Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly.
